You are about to send a design proof to a client, post a product photo to a marketplace, or share a scanned document in a group chat — and you would rather it did not circulate without your name on it. A visible watermark will not stop a determined copier, but it makes casual reuse obvious and awkward. This tool draws text over your image and hands back a PNG, without the file ever leaving your computer.

How it works

Position, and when to use tiled

The five fixed positions place a single line of text in a corner or dead centre. Corners keep the subject clear and suit photos you want people to actually look at; Center is harder to crop away but sits on top of whatever matters most in the frame.

Tiled (repeat) covers the whole picture with the text repeated on a grid, rotated 20° from horizontal. It is the right choice for documents, proofs and anything you expect people to screenshot, because there is no clean area left to crop. Pair it with a low opacity so the content underneath stays readable.

Size and opacity

Size is a percentage of the image's shorter side, adjustable from 2% to 12% and defaulting to 5%. Because it scales with the picture, the same setting looks proportionally the same on a 600px thumbnail and a 6000px camera file — no need to re-tune it per image.

Opacity runs from 10% to 100% and starts at 50%. Light grey or white text usually reads better on dark photographs; dark grey works on bright ones.

What comes out

The result is a PNG at the original pixel dimensions, downloaded as watermarked.png — the picture is not resized or re-compressed, so a large source file produces a large output file. The image is drawn on a canvas inside your own browser and never sent to a server, which is why the tool keeps working with the network off.

Terms explained

Watermark: Text or a mark laid over an image to show ownership or status. A visible watermark deters casual reuse but does not technically protect the file.
Opacity: How solid the text is, from 10% (barely there) to 100% (fully opaque). Lower values keep the picture underneath readable.
Tiled: A mode that repeats the watermark across the whole image on a slanted grid, so there is no clean corner left to crop out.
Size (%): The text height as a percentage of the image's shorter side, so the watermark stays proportional whatever the image resolution.
PNG: A lossless image format. Saving as PNG means the watermarking step itself adds no extra compression damage to the photo.

Frequently asked questions

Is my photo uploaded to a server?

No. The image is decoded and redrawn on an HTML canvas inside your browser, and the download is generated locally. Nothing is transmitted, so private documents and unreleased photos stay on your machine.

Can the watermark be removed?

A visible watermark can be edited out with enough effort, especially a small one in a plain corner. Tiled mode over a busy area makes removal much more tedious, but no visible watermark is tamper-proof. Keep your unwatermarked original safe.

Can I use a logo image instead of text?

Not in this tool — it stamps text only. A workable substitute is to type your brand name or domain and match the colour to your logo. For a graphic overlay you would need an image editor that supports layers.

Why does my watermark look tiny or huge?

Size is relative to the shorter side of the image, so an extremely wide panorama gives a smaller-looking mark than a square photo at the same percentage. Nudge the slider up or down and watch the live preview.

Does watermarking reduce image quality?

No. The output is a lossless PNG at the original dimensions, so nothing beyond the text you added is changed. Note that a PNG of a photograph can be larger than the JPEG you started with.
